The following is a compilation of my views on various issues. You may agree or disagree at will. I encourage all people to challenge their opinions, thus will encourage debate on any of these issues. I can be reached at tneu@visi.com
Young people:
What does society expect from kids? Society treats these people as inferior citizens and grants them few of the rights that normal citizens have. Minors are taxed without any representation in the government - something that wars have been fought about. Minors have no right to use alcohol, though many would do so with responsibility. Minors are frequently targeted in laws that take away their freedoms - such as curfew laws. What kind of message is being sent when society tells these people that they are so mischievous that it is necessary to take away their rights to maintain peace in our society? It is society's fault that people are treated this way. If society would treat minors like full citizens, perhaps this respect would be reciprocated and they would act the part.
Intellectual Property:
All of the problems associated with Intellectual property can easily be resolved by keeping those who believe in it on a strict diet of Intellectual bread and water.
Racism:
Racism today takes the form of dividing people into various groups in order to honor each particular culture. What people do not realize, it is, by the time these divisions are made - the very seed of racism is planted. If you want to fight racism, you must start by NOT dividing people into groups.
Gun Control:
The barbarians among us are those who refuse to allow guns in our society. What kind of person would force teachers to stand idly by while one misguided kid guns down student after student?
Common Nonsense:
When will people stop and think that the most obvious answer is not necessarily the correct one? Like finger handcuffs, sometimes the solution is not what it would first appear to be.
The only sure way to make any problem worse is to pass a law to try to address the issue.
People love to delude themselves with the comforting thought that our legal system only catches the bad guys and not the good guys. The truth is much harder to take. Innocent people are punished, persecuted, and killed by America's justice system. But we feel much more comfortable putting people to death and stripping them of their right to vote if we ignore the facts and think comforting thoughts instead.
Voting Rights:
The right to vote and have one's vote counted is a fundamental right. It is wrong to deny this right to any American Citizen for any reason - be it age, conviction of crime, or otherwise. The fundamental concept of democracy is destroyed when we ignore the wills of some citizens while honoring others. Even totalitarian governments do that!
Government:
One must wonder if democracy is truly any better for people in the long run. At least in a totalitarian government, you only have one group of people abusing your rights. In America, corporate influence creates many dictators all falling over each other to take away rights in order to increase their profits.
Governments suck. Democracy sucks less.
At least in totalitarian countries, you know when you're being screwed and by whom. In America, laws are passed behind closed doors where the governors ignore the governed and instead focus their efforts on the wishes of the highest bidders.
Outlaw the "voice vote". No vote of a public official should ever be hidden from the public view. Our elected representatives need to answer to us for their votes.
Censorship:
Instead of censoring people and creating a situation ripe for abuse, everyone is much better off if misinformation is fought with information. Doing so ensures that those exposed to misinformation will have the ability to realize the truth. Censoring mis-information only aids to the perceived legitimacy of the misinformation - and thus to its spread.
Drugs:
The US government should have no business regulating the behavior of people in their own homes. Despite laws passed to the contrary, stupid people will continue to do stupid things.
What is and is not a drug is determined by its use, not its ingredients.
Some people use caffeine as a drug, and others drink alcohol without using
it as one. Any substance can be used or abused. Equating
the substance and the abuse is a mistake.
